Pearl Gabel — communications and creative consultant
Pearl Gabel — Creative + Communications
I started on the night shift at the New York Daily News. Murder and mayhem. One of the last staff photographers they hired before it all came apart. Also on assignment for the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Reuters, and NBC.
Ten years later I was building the video department for the Mayor of New York, and then running digital for the Governor of New Jersey, where @NJGov got famous by sounding like a person instead of a government.
Then five years on the agency side. Brand strategy, creative and content. High-stakes issues, highly regulated industries. From Fortune 500s to startups, universities, foundations, and coalitions. I learned how business, government, and the business of communications actually work.
Somewhere in there: an Emmy, a Fortune 40 Under 40, a spot on the PRWeek 50, and features in The Atlantic, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, and on my mom's refrigerator.
The work I'm proudest of is still the scrappy kind. I like to get down in the dirt to get the shot. Then keep going.
Grit makes the pearl.
